A community shaped by care
and the rhythms of everyday life

Wan Hei was founded with a single intention — to create a place where older adults could live well, feel known and spend their days as they choose.

How Wan Hei Came to Be

The idea behind Wan Hei grew out of a simple observation: many older adults in Hong Kong live alone in circumstances that are safe enough, yet quietly lonely. Their days are manageable, but not particularly full. The people who love them worry, not about anything dramatic, but about the small steady erosion of company and purpose.

The founding team — a mix of social care professionals and long-time Tai Po residents — wanted to offer something different from the clinical model that dominates most residential care. Not a hospital. Not a facility. A home, with all the warmth that word should carry.

Wan Hei opened its doors in Tai Po, New Territories, choosing the neighbourhood deliberately: close enough to central Hong Kong for regular outings, yet settled and unhurried in character. The cassia trees in the courtyard were already there. They have marked the seasons for residents ever since.

Our Mission and Values

Wan Hei exists to ensure that living with support never means losing yourself. Every choice about how the residence operates — from who joins the team to how meals are served — comes back to that intention.

Dignity at every turn

Support is offered in ways that honour a person's sense of self. Assistance with a task should feel like help from a trusted friend, not a service transaction.

Freedom of pace

There are no rigid timetables here. Residents choose when to join activities, when to have company and when to be quietly by themselves.

Openness with families

We stay in close, relaxed communication with family members — not only when something needs addressing, but as an ordinary part of our relationship with each household.

How We Maintain Our Standards

The quality of daily life at Wan Hei rests on consistent practices, not occasional audits. These are the commitments we hold ourselves to, every day.

Careful Staff Selection

Every member of our team is chosen not only for their skills but for their character. References are checked thoroughly and a trial period precedes any permanent appointment.

Continuing Development

Staff attend regular training in person-centred care, fall awareness and mental wellbeing for older adults. Learning is treated as an ongoing part of the role, not a box to tick at induction.

Resident Feedback

We meet with each resident individually every month to hear how things are going. Suggestions are taken seriously, and changes are made where they make sense — not where they are merely convenient for us.

Household Safety

The residence is reviewed against current Hong Kong building and fire safety requirements. Emergency procedures are practised regularly and communicated clearly to all residents and their families.

Personal Data Protection

Resident information is held in accordance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486). It is never shared beyond those directly involved in a resident's care without explicit consent.

Transparent Agreements

All arrangements are set out in clear, plain language before a resident moves in. There are no hidden charges and no conditions that require legal interpretation to understand.

Senior Living in Hong Kong — What Wan Hei Offers

Senior living communities in Hong Kong vary widely in what they offer and how they operate. At one end there are full nursing facilities with round-the-clock clinical supervision; at the other are ordinary apartments where older adults live independently but without any structured support. Wan Hei sits thoughtfully between these two — a residence where daily life is comfortable and supported, but where the atmosphere remains that of a home rather than a care setting.

Our Tai Po location gives residents easy access to the walking trails of Plover Cove Country Park, the local markets along Tai Po Hui and the wider public transport network connecting to Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. Being connected to the city they know is something our residents value deeply.

The three arrangements at Wan Hei — daily living support, community outings and all-inclusive residence — are designed to meet people where they are, not where a standard package assumes they should be. Some residents come for outings and companionship. Others find value in the complete arrangement, where every aspect of daily life is taken care of by one settled team.

Families who are considering options for a parent or older relative often find a visit to Wan Hei clarifying. Seeing a small, well-run residence in person tends to answer questions that descriptions cannot. We welcome those visits warmly and without pressure.
